If you have spent anytime at all reading my blog or know me at all. You probably know that I am constantly trying to get my crap together. I like to make broad proclamations like, "I'm going to keep my house clean from now on!" and " No more junk food! I'm finally losing this weight!" It is a vicious cycle of doing great and then dropping the ball, only to make another resolution a few weeks or months later. So when I saw this article today it made me laugh! But it wasn't quite right for my situation and stage in life so I thought I would rework it to be more applicable to me.
10 Signs you are trying to be a responsible adult but life keeps getting in the way*
1. You spend three hours researching clean eating while mindlessly eating your kids goldfish crackers.
2. This was going to be the day that you put your foot down and not let your kid watch hours of television. But then your baby was fussy and you had a headache and well at least its Super Why...that's educational right?
3. You are going to get control of your budget. First step, no more take out. You spend all day planning a menu and grocery shopping. But by the time you finally get home and put away the groceries there is no way you are cooking so you call your hubby to pick up tacos on the way home. You'll do better tomorrow.
4. You decide that it is time to ditch the "Mommy Uniform" of yoga pants and a t-shirt and actually dress like the full grown woman you are. Miraculously you manage to shower and put on real clothes before your husband leaves for work. You even manage to blow dry your hair while rocking the baby's bouncer with your foot. 20 minutes later you have thrown your hair back into a pony tail because the baby keeps pulling it. By mid afternoon you have dry vomit on your blouse, and you have ditched your jeans for yoga pants because well you still have 5 pounds of baby weight to lose and they didn't fit you all that well anyway.
5. You do laundry, get groceries , go to the park, cook dinner from scratch and give the kids a bath all in the SAME DAY and you feel like you should get some kind of recognition for being so responsible, like a trophy or a tiara ... or at least a foot rub.
6. The kids are asleep and your husband is working late. This would be the perfect time to catch up on your blog, finish that book you've been meaning to read, or even just go to bed early, its not like you couldn't use the sleep. But there's a Dance Moms marathon on Lifetime.....
7. You decide to swear off soda. It's a waste of money and its not good for you anyway. So for the first time in forever you do not buy a case of it while grocery shopping. Three days later after a particularly long day of running errands you suddenly find yourself in the Swig drive through ordering a large dirty Dr. Pepper. As you practically inhale the caffeinated goodness you rationalize that an occasional treat while out and about is way better than keeping cans of it in the house and you count this as a win.
8. You brace yourself and log on to studentloans.gov. It's time to finally get a handle on your student loan repayments. After recovering from nearly vomiting , you close the laptop and promise yourself that you will deal with it next week.
9. Your hubby has a long weekend off and you spend the morning writing a list of all the things you are going to accomplish while he is home. But then you realize that Friends has been added to Netflix and so you spend the next the next two days binge watching while cuddling in bed and eating pizza.
10. You realize that you are going to turn 30 in four months and the 30 before 30 list you made three years ago is mostly unaccomplished. So you scratch all the big unattainable goals like lose 50 pounds and finish my bachelors degree and instead fill it up with fun things like watch a new TV series, make a new cookie recipe, and try a new restaurant. Having goals is FUN!
